In this guide, I’ll disassemble a Asus UX303LA, refer to this guide, you can upgrade, repair and clean fan for your Asus UX303LA, you also can remove and replace battery, RAM, SSD, wireless card, heat sink and cooling fan.
With the back cover was removed, you can get access to the battery, wireless card, RAM(on board), SSD, heat sink and cooling fan.
Asus UX303LA has a spare mSATA slot for user install SSD.
The 4GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM is soldered on the motherboard.
It’s also has a spare slot for upgrading RAM.
RAM: add one 4GB ram
RAM Type: DDR3L 1600MHz
SSD: add one mSATA SSD (half height 30*26mm), and you can add a 2.5″ SSD (replace the original hard drive)
SSD Type: mSATA Interface
Second HDD: no support

Or only one standart?
Could I replace the hdd for a sdd easily? thx
yes! the hdd can be replace by 2.5″ SSD
Just make sure the SSD is only 7mm tall.
Otherwise it won’t fit
Ok thankyou! I will take the samsung evo 850.
One of the best SSD’s available for this ultrabook.
Enjoy your Asus. Checkout some cloning articles to clone your SSD to get it up and running fast.
Something that I’ve realised is that when the laptop is charging, and I slide my fingers over the metal of the laptop, it looks like if there was a electric vibration, do you know what I mean? Its not a shock, its just lik static, is that normal?
- CW Reply
This may be a grounding issue in the case. I would suggest requesting a repair as it may mean that touching the case and an earth (eg a water pipe) could shock you.
- Joseph McGonagle Reply
If you’re getting shocked, it could be plugged into a miswired electrical outlet, or it could be a defective power supply. If the power supply checks out, have your outlets inspected by an electrician for safety.
What benefit would installing an mSATA SSD provide if the main drive is already an SSD?
- Josh Reply
Adding a installing a mSATA ssd would allow for the addition of a physicall 2.5″ HDD for mass storage, as a m.2 ssd currently takes the 2.5″ sata drive slot
Hey there, thank you for the post, I am having trouble opening up my UX303LA, I’ve removed all 9 of the tiny T5 screws and it seems to be stuck near the back, are there also screws beneath the two back foot pads or am I missing something else like plastic clips maybe?
You have to remove the two back feet. You can put them back again with out using any glue.

Hey there, I couldn’t find any sites with additional batteries for the ux303. I would like some longer endurance. Can I substitute the battery from the ux303 with a battery from another asus-model?
What is the max capacity RAM?
- Helper Reply
currently soldered in motherboard 4GB + 8GB in ram slot = 12GB Some companies are working with 16GB modules, so maybe in future it will be 20GB with broadwells.
- Petr Reply
unfortunately it seems that the i5 and i7 CPUs only support up to 16GB RAM:
Thanks to everyone in this site to contribute to the ASUS ux303la stuff. Really appreciate the good work!!
I am thinking of getting a half sized mSATA for my UX303-LA. Can anyone guide me on whether to go for mSATA or a new SSD ?
I just ordered a 128GB half sized mSATA drive from Amazon, I’ll let you know how it goes when it arrives tomorrow!
Here’s the link:
Did you get the half mSATA working? If so, how?
Oh yeah, it worked great, I even switched out the 4GB SODIMM for a 8GB one as well!
can i install 2 ssd on both msata & 2.5 drive slot together?
yes! you can add two SSD
Hi, It’s possible to use use msata (half size) as main HDD for OS?
I would like to install a msata for OS, should be faster, and still use 2.5 HDD (1TB 5400RPM, not SSD).
yes! This is possible
Do you know whether there are warrenty seal?
the yellow label on the heatsink
Does anyone know if the model Zenbook UX303LA-R4354H have 4GB RAM OnBoard and 4GB RAM in the slot or 8GB RAM OnBoard and one empty slot (to add 8GB more XD) ?
Yeah, it’s 4GB onboard and a 4GB SODIMM installed into the only available slot, I just installed 8GB in mine for a total of 12GB and it’s working fine and ran the memory tests without issue.
I used this part: CT102464BF160B
Thx Don ! i will try this config 🙂
Hi ! Excuse me but even if they are goood info on the page I don’t find the way you exactly disassembly the ASUS :/
Do you have smthg like this ?
I want to upgrade mt laptop 😉
I need help, because my ASUS doesn’t power on.
I am looking for a ASUS UX303LN motherboard model and/or a motherboard schematic diagram.
thanks a lot
What size (mm) of MSATA would fit in???
What size (mm) of MSATA would fit in ?
hi,i’m italiane and i have buy ux303la with i3-5010u and now i wont to upgrade to i5-5200u can i do it? and what type of msata i can add? thank for support
Hi, just buy a SSD msata (half size) Sandisk 24 Gb (sdsa5fk-024g-1002). System has a 1TB 5400RPM disk
Still not installed. But I want to know if it’s necesary to install some soft/driver for use this module as “hybrid”. For example, “Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver”.
I purchased the Crucial memory CT102464BF160B to change, I’m also interested in upgrading the HDD faster one for the OS as principal in the mSATA slot, any recommendation please.
Hey guys! Thanks for the post and all the help on the ux303LA. I got a question, I got mine with i5-4210U, 6GB RAM, is it possible to add a graphics card? Kinda like on the ux303LN.
If so, which one would you recommend? Thanks a lot mate!
- Johnson Reply
No, it is not possible. Most laptops are unable to receive a graphics card update without an external module or significant modification.
My ux303L wont start. Push power button light comes on but nad nothing zip happens.
When charger plugged in green light illuminates.
Is there a pinhole or something that will do a hard reset ? If not how do I disconnect the battery ?
does anyone know exactly how high the msata mini may be without having trouble putting the back site of the zenbook on again?
There are some models with heights from 3.5 to 4.5 mm on the market and I’m wondering if I can take any one I like or should look for a very slim one.
Will the free SSD slot be compatible with a PCI-e to USB adapter? http://imgur.com/8Bm4VvZ
It would be nice to have a wireless USB receiver built into the laptop.
- Arf91 Reply
Did you try if this configuration works? Looks like a nice idea, but I’m concerned about the height and the compability, because the slot is ment for installing a SSD.
The size of the mSATA SSD is half height 30*26mm
Anyone know if you can setup duel boot using the secondary mSATA slot? You could easily get a big enough mSATA to have a second OS like Linux or maybe even try making a Hackintosh.
- Aaron Reply
It should be possible. I’m here looking for what drive I can fit in the secondary spot for that purpose, because I do a lot of research on a LAMPS stack and need native unix to debug. The challenge will be getting around/disabling windows UEFI bootloader. How to geek has a guide. I’ll try and tell you how it went after I’ve done it.
Were you able to get dual boot working? Any advice how to approach dual boot and any tricks to making stuff work in bios? Would like to dual boot Windows and Qubes OS (Linux).
Similar to Don earlier, I’m having problems removing the back cover from UX303LA. I have removed all the screws, including the 2 under the back feet (11 in total, 3 long and 8 short ones), but the cover still seems to be stuck. Does anyone have any ideas?
- aa Reply
Yes, there are 2 screws under 2 plasic pieces near hinges.
Can I install a second SSD and configure a RAID?
This empty SSD slot offer this option?
hi there, i bought msata mini from transcend and it works perfectly! just i do not know what screws i schould use. is it m2x2.5, oder m2x3mm? any help?
Hi, do you know where the keyboard connector is? My power button is not working when I press it but my battery is charging so its not a power issue. Can you please help me?
Does anyone know the RAM replacement in the Asus UX303LAB? As in whether its soldered on the motherboard as well as having the RAM slot occupied, or just soldered onto the motherboard with the slot empty?
Changing screen, The hinges (possible more damage) are broken: the screen works fine but after few tiny black plastic pieces fell off as i open/close the laptop for few days, the screen won’ hold the opened position anymore (complete loose). Anyone got experience replacing a screen or just hinges (if possible)… let me know
- Mitch Reply
I also have problem with broken hinges on the same model. I’ll try to find the shop to fix it.
I recently had the display replaced as the hinge had broken. I would like to reuse the old display as a monitor by attaching a control board. However, i could not find any model number associated with the display to find a compatible driver board.
