In this guide, I’ll disassemble the Asus X401A. I will remove the hard drive to upgrade the SSD.
There is no removable cover on the Asus X401A, so replace the hard disk will be relatively trouble, we need completely disassemble it.
Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove ten screws from the bottom case.
Carefully pry the palm rest with a pry bar, palm rest fixed by some snaps, you need to unlock all the snaps.
Open the palm rest. Note: the keyboard cable and touchpad cable still connecting the motherboard. Disconnect these two cables.
Now the palm rest has been removed, you can see the hard drive.
Disconnect the white cable.
Remove two screws securing the hard drive assembly, you can remove the hard drive assembly.
The hard drive assembly has been removed.
Remove the HDD caddy from the old hard drive, and install it to the SSD.
Install the SSD, tighten the two screws

When using hard drive, X401A boot takes thirty-three seconds. When using SSD, X401A boot takes eleven seconds, very fast.
