How to disassemble Asus A55VM to clean cooling fan

In this guide, I’ll disassemble the Asus A55VM, I will remove the battery, hard drive, keyboard, RAM, palm rest, wireless card, heat sink, cooling fan and motherboard. My target is clean the cooling fan.

Tools needed: screwdriver, brush, pry bar, silicone glue, lubricants.

Turn off your laptop. Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove nine screws from the bottom case.

Remove the rubber mat and remove the screw securing the dvd drive.

When the optical drive removed, you can find three screws at the dvd drive bay. Remove the screws.

Remove two screws securing the hard drive. You can remove the hard drive.
Remove other five screws.

In this step, we will remove the palm rest.

Pry up with the pry bar.

Lift up the palm rest. There are three cables still connecting to the motherboard.

Unlock the black fixed block.

Pull out the touchpad cable. You also need to disconnect the keyboard cable.

Disconnect the LCD cable, speaker cable and the white cable.
Remove the screws securing the motherboard.

Disconnect the cooling fan cable and another cable from the motherboard.

Remove all screws securing the heat sink.

The heat sink has been removed.

Now you can clean the heat sink with a brush.

Clean the cooling fan with a brush.
