In this guide, I’ll disassemble a Dell Inspiron M5110 in order to replace the hard drive. I also remove the RAM, keyboard, palm rest, motherboard, heat sink and cooling fan.
Please make sure your laptop turned off.
Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove one screw securing the memory cover.
Remove the memory.
Remove all screws from the bottom case.
Unlock four latches securing the keyboard. Lift up the keyboard.
Disconnect keyboard cable and other three cables from the motherboard.
Remove four screws securing the palm rest, using a plectrum pry up the palm rest, and remove it.
Disconnect the LCD cable from the motherboard.
Disconnect wireless antenna cables. Remove four screws securing the LCD hinge (right and left).
Disconnect one cable and remove five screws securing the motherboard. You can remove the motherboard.
Now you can find the hard drive and cooling fan, clean up the cooling fan and upgrade the hard drive is very easy.
