Hello, did u know if the mother board has the m.2 slot like the v15 ? i have 1tb HDD so i prefer add an m.2ssd instead of change the HDD.
the VN7-791G not provide the mSATA port
no, not mSATA, but m.2 slot. Your laptop did not have any ssd preinstalled? You can find the slot on the backside of the mainboard, you need to remove some screws to lift it.
Ok, no mSATA port, but I have read around that it has a M.2 port… or not?
Hey slightly off topic but couldn’t find the info anywhere else. Do you have an idea if a hdd caddy used in place of the odd will the v17 recognise the drive (ssd) correctly in ahci mode?
^ This. I am also dreaming about adding something like a 1.6tb ssd to a hdd caddy instead of the optical drive which I don’t use very often at all. It should work in theory, but I’d like to see someone that already tried.
I checked eBay sellers and hddcaddy.com which confirms hdd in a caddy is OK but for ssd they don’t recommend to put in the caddy. I don’t want to open my nitro due to guarantee so still checking if somebody tried putting ssd in that caddy
So you got m.2 2280 slot and instead of putting ssd there, you take out 1TB disk and bought 2.5 SSD… How stupid are you?
Perhaps we weren’t clear enough, my respectable chap. We already have a 256 gig ssd in our m.2 2280 slot. And we know we can replace the 1TB HDD with an ssd.
What we want to know is the hdd caddy situation, regarding connecting a third ssd (or hdd) in the optical bay.
I’d want to max out my laptop’s storage capacity, so that I can have all my stuff on the go without worrying about hauling external storage. So having a 256gb ssd + 2 extra 1.6tb ssds in there would be a dream come true.
Or were you commenting to the article directly (OP)? I don’t know, the thread indentation design, and the “reply notification” system around here are confusing… And OP said he’s got a 500gig hdd not a 1tb disk.
hi, i have an Acer Aspire VN7-791G-76ZV, with 60GB SSD and 2TB HDD.
I was wondering if any of you knows if I can access the back panel and replace the 60GB to 1TB SSD? If yes, any specific model I should be looking at?
Thanks!
you should remove 12 screws securing the bottom case, pry up and remove the palmrest, then you can access the SSD, its seem not very easy.
Your 60GB drive is an M.2 2280 SSD, not a 2.5 inch. It is meant as a cache, not an OS install at that small size. They may not make 1TB M.2 SSD yet, only 512GB. Yes, you can upgrade the M.2 SSD.
i have the v15 nitro with no ssd in the M.2 port..
i only have a 1tb hdd..
i want to replace it with a 120sdd
…………..should i make recovery usb and use it to install the os on the ssd?? will i have problems being its smaller????
or will the DVD recovery media do any differently??? or should i clone ??? will the hdd and ssd size difference be a problem?? i would just like to clone the hdd to the ssd if the size is not an issue but im afraid the recovery partitions will not work once on the ssd, whats the best process to swap
Hi everybody,
Derek i just want to answer your question and share my story. I had acer VN7-791G-78M4 bought from mediamarkt but not including ssd so 2 days ago i bought 850evo ssd and dvd hdd caddy for better performance. Unlikely Windows 8.1 didn’t let me setup on my ssd which is in dvd caddy. Then i decided to change my hdd with ssd and use hdd in caddy. Before the disassemble my laptop i took recovery to usb just in case then disassembled to reach hdd and also just my curiosity i checked motherboard if there is any m sata port existence. I am not sure it is m sata or m2 sata port but there is one. I will try it and i will notice if i have any improvement. As a conclusion i replaced 1tb hdd with 120gb ssd and thanks to my usb recovery i setup my os easily with no problem and then deleted recovery part for extra free space in ssd which was created by setup. Then i plugged hdd via hdd caddy. Now it is working very efficiently but if i can confirm m sata port i will use because i want my dvd rom back… I hope my story will help you. Good luck 😉
Hi,
So you’ve tried to install and run windows 8.1 from a SSD installed on a caddy in the optical unit with sata connection leaving the 1TB HDD where it was placed from factory and did not work??
Actually not, I tried to setup win7 and i think win 8.1 did not let me setup it. Also i did not try to setup on ssd(in sata port) with 1tb hdd(on caddy) just in case of format block. I meant i build win 8 on ssd(via sata port in laptop) without adding hdd(via caddy). After i week as i meant above(finding m2sata port) i bought m2sata ssd. So i am using my laptop with double ssd. One of them m2sata which is primary(built win 8) and 2.5 inch on sata port sdd. Both of them samsung 850evo 120gb and their performance awesome. Then i decided to use my 1tb internal hdd as a external hdd with ext. case but now my caddy useless but i got back my dvd 😉 Sorry for late response :/(Also before buying m2sata ssd i used my laptop 1 or 2 week with caddy(in hdd) and it was working well, I think this was not caddy fault it was win8’s block)
ssd upgrade
m.2 sata onboard install
dvd rw hdd upgrade
